Your CFE bill, explained, with a plan to correct it
We analyze the charges and penalties on your electric bill, review your demand, power factor and peak-hour consumption, and propose the technical actions to correct them. We also support you with the Grid Code.
What it involves
The bill for a medium-voltage plant has several components: energy by time period, demand, capacity, and charges or credits for power factor. When operations change but the contract does not, charges appear that are paid month after month without anyone reviewing them.
We review your billing history, identify which charges can be reduced and which technical action corresponds to each one: correcting power factor, adjusting contracted demand or shifting loads out of peak hours. If CFE has issued technical observations or requires you to comply with the Grid Code, we help you address them.
When is it needed?
- Your bill has low power factor charges.
- Your contracted demand does not match what you actually use.
- Charges during peak hours are high.
- CFE has issued technical observations or requires you to comply with the Grid Code.
- You are going to expand your load or change tariffs.
What it includes
The final scope is defined with you, based on your installation and what you need to solve.
Bill review
Analysis of the billing history to separate each charge and its trend.
Power factor
Diagnosis of the cause and correction proposal with capacitor banks or filters.
Demand and peak hours
Review of contracted demand and of the loads that coincide with peak hours.
Grid Code
Assessment of the requirements that apply to your load center and a plan to meet them.
CFE observations
Technical support to address the observations and the required documentation.
Action plan
A prioritized list of actions, so you can decide where to start.
What we need to serve you
The basics are enough to quote. If you are missing some data, don't stop: we gather it on site as part of the service.
To carry out the work
Requested once the service is confirmed. We help you gather it.
- CFE bills for the last twelve months.
- Supply contract or contracted demand data.
- Single-line diagram of the installation.
- List of the main loads and their operating schedules.
- Data on existing capacitor banks or filters.
- CFE documents related to observations or the Grid Code.
Your information is treated as confidential and is used only for your project.
Studies with measurements at your plant
We measure directly at your facility and deliver interpreted results with clear recommendations.
Load and demand profile
We record how your facility consumes energy over days or weeks: peak demand, peak hours and behavior by shift.
Useful for: sizing a new transformer or switchboard, checking whether your contracted demand is right and planning expansions.
Power factor diagnosis and correction
We measure power factor and reactive power to calculate the correction needed and verify that it works.
Useful for: eliminating low power factor charges on your utility bill, sizing a capacitor bank or checking an existing one.
Grid Code compliance assessment
We measure at the point of connection the parameters required by the Grid Code and show you what complies and what needs to be corrected.
Useful for: load centers required to comply, preparing for a review and a corrective plan.
Event evidence for CFE
We record voltage sags, interruptions and variations at your service entrance, with date and time.
Useful for: claims with CFE for equipment damage and showing whether the problem comes from the grid or from your facility.
Before-and-after verification
We measure before and after a change to prove the result with data.
Useful for: confirming the effect of a capacitor bank or filter, validating savings and supporting a project handover.
How the service is performed
Bill review
We analyze your history and separate each charge.
Diagnosis
We link each charge to its technical cause.
Action plan
We propose the actions with their priority.
Follow-through
We carry out the corrections and follow up.
What people ask us most
What is the power factor charge?
In medium-voltage tariffs, CFE applies a charge when the monthly power factor is below 90% and a credit when it is above. Correcting it is usually one of the actions with the fastest payback.
What are peak hours?
It is the period of the day when energy and demand have the highest cost in the time-of-use tariff. Shifting loads out of that period lowers the bill without reducing production.
Who must comply with the Grid Code?
Load centers connected at medium and high voltage, in accordance with the provisions of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).
Do you need to measure my installation?
Not always. Many actions are defined from the bills; when the cause needs to be known, it is complemented with a power quality study.
